Do you experience toothache, spontaneous tooth pain or tooth pain that occurs without any apparent cause? Do you feel pains or have difficulty eating or chewing? These symptoms can be as a result of “Dental Caries”.
In my research for tooth discoloration, I stumbled on tooth diseases and dental caries caught my attention because it has to do with tooth decay, and a lot of people out there are suffering from tooth decomposition, tooth mortification, and all sorts of dental cavity problems.
Well, dental caries is another word for tooth decay, it is one of the most common persistent and widespread disease today. And guess what! it is one of the most preventable tooth disease. When you eat certain foods, the bacteria on your teeth breaks them down and produces acids that have the ability to dissolves and seriously damage the hard tissues of your teeth. The result is known as the formation of the dental caries (cavities). This disease can be spotted on the top most part of the tooth (occlusal caries) where food particles constantly come in direct contact with the teeth and the dental caries that form between the tooth (Interproximal Caries). Bacteria stay in these parts of the teeth and pose a risk to your oral hygiene. These acids released by the bacteria are strong enough to start the process of demineralizing the enamel on your teeth and form tiny holes.
A dentist can help treat the damage incurred from dental caries using four procedures:
- Root Canal
In other news, I will recommend a few preventive measures based on my research.
- Brush your teeth twice a day, or at least using toothpaste or gel with fluoride which strengthens the tooth against the acid attack that can damage your teeth.
- Floss regularly, especially if you are frequently ingesting food or drinks that contain lots of sugar which oral bacteria convert to acid that disolves
Lastly, be sure to visit your dentist! They are there to help you with any dental problem and will give you more information about solutions in preventing other oral problems. Note: Clean teeth will give you a huge confidence boost and put a shine on your smile (literally). You can get better recommendation from your dentist on how to brush properly.
